First Friday VIRTUAL Open Mic

First Friday Zoom Open Mic for April 1, 2022 is upon us. Join hosts, Larry Power, Special Guest Co-host Laura Smith & Lee Eric Freedman for inspiring spoken word, musical performances and the famous "name your talent" at the best open mic in Swampscott, MA. Open Mic begins at 7:00 PM EDT and runs until 10:00 PM EDT (United States).

Please Join us this month as we welcome our feature, Activist Poet Jeeni Criscenzo.

Jeeni Criscenzo considers herself to be an activist poet - working for peace, justice, and the preservation of life on earth, through her writing. She continues to use storytelling in her poetry and essays to advocate for the voiceless, particularly women and the poor. As an early adopter of the Internet, she traveled the country in an RV, reporting on the progressive movement in her blog, CPR for Democracy. Settling in California, she used her US Congressional run against Darrell Issa to shed light on issues mainstream media wasn’t touching. She was a weekly columnist in the San Diego Free Press. In 2016 Jeeni was recognized as a KPBS 2016 Local Hero for her work with women who were homeless. While retired in New Hampshire with her fellow activist husband, Juan del Rio, she continues to be an activist poet. Her poetry has appeared in California Quarterly, San Diego Poetry Annual, Extreme: Anthology for Social & Environmental Justice, and Sunshine/Noir II. Her historical novel about the Maya, Place of Mirrors, was published 1996. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Poetry Society of New Hampshire. Her poetry can be found on byjeeni.com/poetry.
