This is an exciting new program at ReachArts! Moderator Laura Smith will host an interview and QA session with authors as they discuss their own original works.

Feb. 18: David Newell Townsend, an international telecommunications consultant by day, who dabbles in a variety of other fields. He has published two books and a variety of essays, including Rock 'n' Roll and War and Peace (2016) and his new book, Retracing Steps: An Exploration of Nature and History on the Massachusetts North Shore. The book interlaces the history of Swampscott and the surrounding region with a memoir of hiking the forest trails that connect the towns. David's other endeavors include a whimsical podcast with his daughter Alexandra on classic Romance comics, "My Comical Romance" and also design and production of Halloween haunted houses. He'll read from and talk about his works and also the process of self-publishing, and any other topics of interest to participants.

March 18: Steven A. Rosenberg, editor and publisher of the Jewish Journal, reporter and columnist for 15 years at The Boston Globe, will read from his newest book, Middle Class Heroes: Voices from the Boston Suburbs. Famed essayist Philip Lopate of Columbia University praises Steve's philosophical musings about the societal changes brought on by technology, while yet listening to the least heard among us. "His prose is filled with regret for all that was lost and gratitude that it once happened and some of it remains." Steve will share his favorite moments from the beat.

April 15: Barbara Call, by day, is Senior Director of Content Operations and Strategy at IDG Communications. 24x7, she is also a skilled potter, as well as author of nonfiction books including The Crafter's Devotional: 365 Days of Tips, Tricks, and Techniques to Unlock Your Creative Spirit and The Best Dog Tricks on the Planet: 106 Amazing Things Your Dog Can Do on Command. Barbara will read selections from her books and discuss how the publishing process compares to the art-making process.

May 20: Alexandria Peary, New Hampshire's Poet Laureate and a Professor of English at Salem State University, is author of four poetry collections, the third of which--Control Bird Alt Delete (2014) --won the Iowa Poetry Prize. She has also published two books about writing pedagogy, including Prolific Moment: Theory and Practice of Mindfulness for Writing (2018), and performed a TEDx talk, "How mindfulness Can Transform the Way You Think About Writing." Alex will read some of her poetry and creative non-fiction. June 17: Barry Brodsky's plays The Boys of Winter (co-written with Eric Small and Dean B. Kaner), Patriotic Duty, and the Twelve-Forty have won awards internationally for their representation of veterans and peace. Brodsky taught screenwriting at Emerson College for 19 years before moving west on Boylston to Boston University's Film School, and northwest to Lesley College's MFA in Creative Writing program. Barry will share some stories about his productions and discuss the craft and process of writing for film and stage.
